Inspired by Valerio Olgiati’s ‘Non-referential Architecture’ (2018)—which outlined a design approach that is removed from historical connotations, focusing instead on the inherent qualities of a space and the experience of its visitors—the tranquil contemporary interior of Aesop Northcote Road sits in contrast with its historic shopfront.
The store’s elegant curvature gently ushers guests through a series of signature Aesop experiences. A repurposed basin provides ample space to explore products while conversing with consultants. Its time-worn finish also served as inspiration for the choice of tactile materials such as lime-plaster walls and cork flooring. An inner glasshouse then leads to a Fragrance Armoire—an intriguing portal into our growing range of unconventional aromas. Its doors open to a complex inner world, with drawers containing ceramic discs suffused with fragrance, and the Infusion Chamber where visitors can hang their coat or scarf to imbue the fabric with their chosen scent.
